Puppy Park Christmas Quilt {Fabric Envy}

Photobucket
Here's a quick snapshot of my son's Christmas quilt. I finished it over the weekend but haven't been able to post any pics because I've had the flu! Now that I'm finally feeling a bit more like myself I thought I'd share it with you. The quilt top was made from two 21 square Layer Cake's from Riley Blake's  Puppy Park. I used the "All Boxed In" pattern which turned out to be a very simple and quick quilt pattern, I think it would be a great one for beginners.You can download the pattern for free from the Moda Bake Shop.

Photobucket My favorite part about the quilt is the puppy applique that I decided to add on a few of the squares--isn't it cute? I hope everyone's holiday sewing is going well. I've only got one more quilt left to make!

I have one Puppy Park layer cake left if anyone is interested in purchasing it. Just leave me a comment with your email address and I'll get in-touch with you.

Happy Sewing!

Oh Deer Quilt Top Finished! {Fabric Envy}

Photobucket
Here's a quick pic of my Oh Deer Quilt Top for my oldest daughter--she is going to love it! I agonized forever over what pattern I would use for this fabric. I wanted it to be something that would show of both the large scale prints and the smaller prints too. Finally I stumbled upon the "Sing the Blues" pattern at Riley Blake Fabrics and the best part is that it was free!  You can download the pattern on Riley Blake's website here. I used a layer cake and a little yardage for the borders. I had at least 10 complete layer cake squares left over plus enough scraps that I was able to do some piecing on the backing. I still have two layer cakes left in the shop if you're interested.   Now I'm sending it off to my great friend Jenny of Sew Kind of Wonderful to quilt it up for me. I can't wait to see the finished product. Now it's time to start on my son's quilt--one down two more to go!

Christmas Quilts {Fabric Envy}

This year for Christmas my kiddos want quilts. Flattered, but yikes I hope I can pull it off. Luckily my fourth isn't old enough to vocalize what she wants, so for now I can get away with only making three before Christmas day instead of four.

They each picked out their own fabric and my design will be their surprise. My oldest chose Oh Deer, my son chose Puppy Park, and my three year old picked Happy Ever After. These fabric collections are so adorable! I still have lots of Oh Deer left in my shop, but I'm out of Puppy Park and Happy Ever After.

Here's a peak at the Oh Deer quilt in progress.

Wish me luck!

I am His Daughter

This is completely unrelated to fabric, but..... I've been preparing for a lesson I'm teaching to my Young Women at church this upcoming Sunday about being a daughter of God. I was so touched when I came across this video that I had to share it with all of you. Whether you're religious or not there is a powerful message here; you are important, relevant and uniquely beautiful exactly the way you are.

All in One Diaper Clutch and Changing Pad by Cluck Cluck Sew {Fabric Envy}

Oh I've got a fun share for all of you. Feast your eyes on my new, adorable diaper clutch!  I don't know about you but I was sick and tired of diggin' around in my disorganized purse to find diapers and wipes. I carry a big bag, the Amy Butler Birdie Sling to be exact and with it's deep center and all my stuff "way too much crap in my purse junk" it was time I get organized. So where did I turn to for guidance and direction, Google of course! I wanted a stylish Diaper Clutch that would hold my diapers, wipes, and serve as a changing pad too, and what-do-ya-know I found the perfect free tutorial over on Cluck, Cluck, Sew.

I changed it up slightly by using a laminate fabric instead of minky on the inside so that if my little makes a mess I can wipe it clean. If you've never sewn with laminates before you'll probably want to use a walking foot. Without a walking foot they tend to stick a bit in your machine.  It can be done without a walking foot, but trust me it's much, much easier with one.  I also added a size 60 cover button to the front of the clutch--for cuteness of course!

I used the following fabrics all available in my shop: www.fabricenvy.com

Clutch Exterior: 1/2 yard of Wallflowers in Dusk from the Secret Garden collection by the talented Sandi Henderson

Clutch Interior: 1/2 yard of  Indian Big Dot in Cream from the Indian Summer collection by Zoe Pearn

That's it! From start to finish it only took me 40 minutes with plenty of distractions. This project is so simple it's perfect for the beginner. You can snag the full tutorial over on Allison website www.CluckCluckSew.com, or click here. If you like Allison's style I've got lots of Cluck Cluck Sew patterns for sale in my shop too.

Now I can finally reach into my bag and pull out a cute and practical case for my baby changin' needs.
Thank you, thank you Allison!

Journal Jars and the Hot Glue Accident!

I decided to make these little jars for my Young Women at church. The Young Women are girls that attend my church ages 12-18 and I am their leader. I taught lesson number 19 about Personal Records, or keeping a Journal and made these jars for each girl. I got the idea from sugardoodle, and added a little bit to make it my own. Each girl was given two sheets of paper with about 20 different ideas for subjects to write about in their journals. I asked them to cut them up into individual strips and place them in the jar. They were then given a challenge to write in their journals for 21 days. If they were stumped on what to write they could draw out a paper strip from their jar and have a subject right away. I hope they enjoyed the lesson. I know I did! I'm taking the challenge with them and am excited to see in what ways I improve by keeping a daily journal.

Supplies needed:

  • Baby food jar washed and ready to go
  • 2 inch circles cut from cute scrapbook paper or fabric. I just used a two-inch punch
  • Skinny ribbon, the 3/4 inch kind is too-wide. Just a hair smaller and it will fit around the rim of the lid nicely.
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Printable labels, download mine here. Or you can make your own by cutting scrapbook paper into 2" x 10.5" and wrapping it around the jar

Click on image to download full-size printable

How-To:
  1. Start by wrapping your ribbon around the lid base to get the length right. Cut and glue on.
  2. Cut out your 2 inch circles from cardstock or even scrap fabric and glue on the top of the lid.
  3. Finally cut out your jar labels and hot glue them around the outside.
That's it! Now I bet you're wondering about the accident part? I had just applied a bunch of hot glue to my circle and accidentally dropped it in my hand. Apparently my reaction time was not fast enough--(yep I'm slowly accepting the fact that I'm not a superhero) by the time I ripped off the cursed paper the glue was stuck to my skin. Once I got the courage to rip the glue off my hand, my skin came with it :( Ouch! Oh the things I am willing to do for a great craft!

Wish the quality of the jar picture was better but my hand was hurting so bad I was too lazy to pull out the good camera, in comes the trusty cell-phone camera.

Happy Crafting just don't burn yourself!

Spring Quilt Market 2012

Grr......Sample Spree is going on at the 2012 Spring Quilt Market right now and I'm wishing I was there to enjoy the chaos!  Sample Spree is where all of the different manufacturers bring samples of new and current collections that you can purchase right then and there. As a shop owner this is a big thrill because you're getting your chance to get your hot little hands on collections that aren't currently available. The idea is that you will take these items and create "samples" for your store. Oh how I wish I was there. There's just something about new fabric that gets my heart racing!

This time last year I was experiencing my first ever Quilt Market and I had such a great time. You can read more about my experience here. I couldn't make it to Kanas City this time around, but I should be able to attend Market in Houston, this fall. Not to worry I will still be stocking the shop all the latest and greatest from this weeks show.

Here's a picture of me with Amy Butler one year ago. I was 8 months pregnant and felt like an elephant next to her but I insisted on getting the shot anyway, because hello it's Amy Butler--and when you're a fabric junkie like me, Amy Butler is a CELEBRITY!

Quilt Market I know you're not the same without me, or maybe I'm not the same without you! Until this fall.......

Four Fat Quarter Apron Tutorial from Maureen Cracknell Handmade

It's no secret to all of you that I love Basic Grey's Hello Luscious line.  So when I saw what Maureen of Maureen Cracknell Handmade did with the bundle she won in my Hello Luscious Giveaway I had to share it with all of you.

Not only is this apron completely adorable, it was completed with just under 4 fat quarters--no that's my kinda project. Maureen was generous enough to share her pattern in this simple step-by-step tutorial on her blog. Check it out here.

The best part is that she made this apron for Project 17, Aprons for Haiti. If you want to find out more about the project visit their facebook fan page or on Maureen's blog. Hurry aprons need to be received my May 31st.

Special thanks to Maureen for always coming up with beautiful projects for us to all gawk over and for cluing me into Project 17's great cause. I'm going to try and get one finished before the dealine.

I also ran into these two other cute Hello Luscious projects over on the Basic Grey blog. Both were created by the very talented Amy Friend. Click on the pictures for the tutorials. Fabric and that cute little pink flower are available for purchase in my shop!

So much to do...so little time! Hello Luscious fabric available in my shop! And as a special thanks to all of my great readers from now until Monday May 14th use code HelloMay for 15% off your entire order!

Hilarious Mothers Day Dance Dare for the Ellen DeGeneres Show!

Okay folks you don't want to miss this. My hilarious friend Kathryn has created this video for the Mothers Day Dance Dare for the Ellen show. I have lots of great high school memories with this girl that include weekend prank calls to Chinese restaurants, b-boxing while singing through our noses (yes Kathryn I taught you that one), and lots and lots of goofy dancing at 5:30am for dance team practices.

Knowing the girl behind those sexy prego moves just makes me laugh even harder.  So kick back, relax, and enjoy and good laugh. And when you're done be a dear and share the video!
